Biologists from UzhNU presented their research at the 15th Congress of the Ukrainian Botanical Society

From September 30 to October 4, the 15th Congress of the Ukrainian Botanical Society was held at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (Ivano-Frankivsk). The forum was organized by the Ukrainian Botanical Society of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, and Kherson State University.
During the conference, which was held in a hybrid format, research findings from leading scholars across all regions of Ukraine were presented.

In addition to the plenary session, participants also worked in eight sections:
mycology and lichenology;
plant conservation;
plant and fungal collections;
breeding, introduction, and resource science;
systematics and floristics of vascular plants;
geobotany and plant ecology;
algal and bryological studies;
biotechnology, physiology, and biochemistry; cellular and molecular biology.
The conference program also included three roundtable discussions: citizen science and the participation of amateurs in the study of plant diversity; scientific research in nature reserve areas; botany and ecology in secondary and higher education institutions.

Uzhhorod National University was represented at the conference by Yaroslava Hasynets, Dean of the Faculty of Biology; Roman Kish, Associate Professor in the Department of Botany; and Alina Huklyvska, a graduate student in the Department of Botany. The following presentations were given: “Embryological Research at Uzhhorod National University: History and Current Status” (Y. Hasynets, section: biotechnology, physiology and biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology) and “Diversity of Biotopes in the Verkhniy Tysensky Basin (Transcarpathia)” (R. Kish, section: geobotany and plant ecology).
Yaroslava Hasynytsia also participated in the roundtable “Botany and Ecology in Secondary and Higher Education Institutions,” during which, among other things, she highlighted the problem of a shortage of high-quality Ukrainian-language textbooks and teaching aids in basic biological disciplines, particularly botany. She proposed joining forces with colleagues from various higher education institutions and research organizations to prepare new print and electronic publications.
On the final day of the conference, botanists from Uzhhorod took a field trip to the Dniester Regional Landscape Park, where they explored the flora and vegetation characteristic of the Transnistria region within the “Dumka” karst-cave complex and the Divich-Gora botanical nature reserve.

The Uzhhorod Botanical Department sincerely thanks the organizers for a high-quality, eventful, and productive event, and wishes the newly elected president of the UBT, Y.P. Didukh, and his team fruitful and successful work!
